This was my first magic loop sock, I really liked it, it took a little getting used to but since the entire pattern was only on the front side of the sock it was really simple even though there was a chart I was able to read my knitting by the second repeat that I rarely had to look at the chart.
This was also my first short row heal and I really like the simplicity of it. Heal flaps? No way! I wear my socks with Crocs so I don't need to worry about wearing out the back of the heal.
And this was my first toe up sock and I used the Magic cast on and boy oh boy was that easy! I watched a magic cast on video on youtube by Cat Bordhi and she really made it clear how to do it. There are many wonderful videos for knitting instruction on youtube these days I recommend it for all your knitting woes.
I knit these with knitpicks fingering weight sock yarn in the bare color because I was planning on dyeing up some more sock yarn for fun and the instructions for the socks said they would look good in a solid color so I figured I'd just dye them later... I used the new 47 inch knit picks fixed nickle plated circulars in size US 1.5 and enjoyed how light and flexible the needles were. I also enjoy their harmony wood needles but they don't come in such a long cable yet.
And now the pics!

What a beautiful job you did! And your short row heel and gusset join look perfect -- always my toughest part. No, you and I won't win any prizes for marathon knitting but at the end of the day, we'll have some really nice socks.
Oh thank you! I used the short row heal instructions from "More Sensational Knitted Socks", they were a little different than the instructions in the pattern and gave a detailed explanation of the wrap and turn concept which I had never done before.
